KUWAIT: Recent report released by National Bank of Kuwait shows that 190 thousand expatriates have left the country since the beginning of pandemic COVID-19. In 2020 census data, a decline of 2.2% in total population is resulted, which is the lowest in the history of 30 years.
The expatriates share in total population is 68.20%, whereas, number of expats is declined by 1.8% and an increase of 0.90% in Kuwait citizens. The decrease in expat community is because of economic uncertainty during the pandemic and government’s efforts to implement Kuwaitization policies.
The report clarifies that, 134 thousand expatriates left the country in 2020 and 56 thousand expatriates in the first half of 2021 totaling 190 thousand people.
